Program objectives
The updating program is for individuals who wish to obtain the right to practice as nursing assistants.
Admission conditions
In accordance with applicable regulations, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ) has the authority to assess candidates’ files and determine their eligibility for the updating program, with a view to issuing a permit to practice the profession.
To be eligible for admission to this program, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Present an authorization issued by the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec to enroll in the updating program
AND
Be a newcomer to Québec holding a health sciences diploma awarded outside the province
OR
Be a Québec nursing assistant who has not practiced the profession for at least years
At the end of this updating program, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec could impose additional requirements before issuing a permit to practice the profession.
Program content
Statement of competency
- Determine their suitability for the profession and training process
- Become familiar with legal and ethical aspects of the profession
- Communicate in a care team
- Provide care related to activities of daily living
- Administer first aid
- Intervene in clinical care situations
- Provide care to clients experiencing loss of autonomy
- Provide care and services to clients requiring short-term care
- Provide care to clients in surgical units
