Located 20 minutes north of Montreal, the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is the third largest English school board in the Province of Québec and one of the top-ranking English school boards/school service centres in the province. Its territory spans over 35,000 square kilometres. The school board’s dedicated staff of over 2,000 individuals services the needs of students across our vast territory of rural and urban communities.

Our student population is comprised of over 14,000 students attending classes in 26 elementary schools, 9 secondary schools, 2 adult education centres, 2 vocational training centres, and 1 nature and science centre. We serve the educational needs of students in the regions of Laval, Laurentides and Lanaudière from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 11 (elementary and secondary), and in the adult education and vocational training sector.

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is committed to the success of all its students. Our primary objective is to create a positive and meaningful environment for all students to enable them to reach beyond their potential and contribute to their lifelong learning. We offer students from abroad the opportunity to study in English and, at the same time, experience the uniqueness of the French language in our schools and in the Québec community.

OUR REGIONS

LAVAL

This region is known for its community life, it is an attractive city offering a rich and diverse culture with lots of green spaces, parks and waterfronts to admire. Laval is only a short drive away from Montreal, and public transit options are more than plentiful. Montreal is easily accessible by commuter train, bus and metro. Laval also has its own transit system, so you can get to where you want to go with ease.

Laval is a safe city to live and its natural heritage of waterfronts and woodlands offers a wealth of activities. It is a great place for international students to learn English and experience the Quebecois lifestyle.

LANAUDIÈRE

Lanaudière is known for its festive artistic nature. The city of Joliette is situated immediately northeast of Montreal. Whether you like theatre or the arts, nature or history, there is something for everyone. There are many sugar shacks where families love to experience country-style home cooking. Throughout the year, there are theatre plays and if you are a music lover, you can enjoy the annual music festival. Discover quaint villages, hillside regions and scenery with its natural beauty still intact. You can ride your bicycle around the valleys and visit the parks and playgrounds and enjoy the outdoors. You can also enjoy summer or winter outdoor activities, such as; horseback riding, canoeing, golf, hiking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding.

LAURENTIANS

The Laurentians region, situated 20 kilometres north of Montreal is known for its picturesque villages and famous for its majestic Mont-Tremblant. There are plenty of outdoor activities for all ages, all year round. Some activities include apple picking, downhill and cross country skiing, night skiing, golf, fine dining, swimming, cycling, hiking and water sliding. The Laurentians also has a world class bicycle path that crisscrosses the whole region and is tucked safely away from the road. Cyclists use it in the summer months and cross country skiers use it in the winter. There are many water parks, lakes and parks that tourists and Quebecois families enjoy during their weekend getaways or summer or winter vacations.

Arundel Nature & Science Centre

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is the only school board in the province to have a large nature facility that offers outdoor environmental education programs. Set in 155 hectares of natural beauty in the heart of the Laurentians, the Arundel Nature & Science Centre is a unique facility which offers people of all ages the opportunity to engage in learning outdoors. Authentic period buildings from the 1800s, acres of beautiful forest, hiking and cross-country ski trails, a genuine ‘sugar shack’ and the Rouge River – are all part of the experience waiting for you!
