Homestay famillies

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board has partnered with MLI Homestay and promotes the host family program to students and staff in its schools, as well as to families residing in its community. The school board and MLI work closely together to mentor international students and provide appropriate support to agents.

All information provided on applications sent to MLI is validated to ensure that international students are accommodated in excellent families. MLI ensures that each family can offer the student it hosts a private, furnished room, three nutritious meals a day and a healthy family environment.

Any family wishing to host an international student must undergo a rigorous selection process.

A comprehensive home inspection and criminal background check for family members are also part of the precautions taken to provide a safe environment for students.

Selected families may come from different cultures and backgrounds and tend to have medium or high socioeconomic status. Some have young children, others older children who have sometimes already left the family residence, or no children. Depending on availability, the international student can choose between an English-speaking or French-speaking family.
