Assistance in Health Care Facilities (PAB)

Program objectives

With the help of an intervention plan, this program trains the student to provide care, assistance and services related to the needs of a patient of any age. The students also learn to welcome and integrate persons in the care unit, provide care and comfort specific to the context of the unit, that is, they adapt the basic care and services to the client’s condition as well as to the apparatus required.

Admission conditions

To be eligible for admission to this program, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent
OR
Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to begin and have earned the Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition for equivalent learning
OR
Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program and have the following functional prerequisites: the successful completion of the General Development Test (see the following table), or recognition for equivalent learning

  • Prevent infections and contamination
  • Adopt behaviours consistent with professional decorum and workplace ethics
  • Establish a helping relationship

  • Consider the manifestations of physical illnesses and disabilities as well as the specific needs of affected clients
  • Adopt relational approaches with clients with mental health problems, cognitive deficits or intellectual disabilities
  • Perform basic care procedures
  • Administer first aid
  • Provide assistance to clients in palliative care
  • Use job search techniques
  • Apply basic care procedures specific to care units
  • Provide basic care and services to clients requiring long-term care
  • Provide basic care and services to clients with mental health problems, cognitive deficits or intellectual disabilities
  • Provide basic care and services to clients requiring short-term care
